Peace and Quiet

Government proposal 13A of January 2012: come up with alternate methods of communication in case of terrorist attack on our telecommunications and electricity. When this bill was brought to the legislative branch of the government it was immediately shut down. It was called, “A waste of money”, and “an unnecessary precaution”. 13 A was never spoken of again.
November 12 8:00 AM: An eerie silence falls over The U.S.A. “Lets go, lets go people we need to get our phone lines back up!” exclaimed Robert Gates, secretary of defense. “The whole pentagon has got no Internet, no email, no phones, no news if we don’t get this figured out soon we’re gonna be in some major trouble!” The president chimed in, “This morning at exactly 0600 hours, orders were given to General Lee to execute an air strike on a nuclear weapons factory in Russia. Soon after we gave the location we discovered that we had the wrong location. The coordinates we gave were right over a civilian city. Now we have no communication lines with our troops to cancel the orders. We our complety helpless until we get these communication lines back up.”
For about an hour, the computers were busy at work in the pentagon. This lasted until the workers realized that they were helpless. All over the country people were isolated within their own community . No phones, no e-mails, no texting, no police walkie-talkies, no television news. As soon as everyone realized what was happening, America fell into chaos. Everyone robbed banks whenever they wanted to, no 911, no alarm. People were murdered in cold blood all over the streets. Nobody to save them.
Meanwhile In Russia, The army is dropping bombs all over Russian homes and office buildings. Thousands of people die, just because of a communication issue.
As soon as The Russian Government discovered what we did, they lost it; they waged all out nuclear war on the U.S.A. Only hours later, warheads were dropped all over America. America was destroyed, a barren, empty and deserted plain. All you could see among the mangled remains of the pentagon were the forgotten files of proposal 13 A, hanging out of the smashed, and burnt file cabinet.
